Preparing dogs to thrive in a variety of home and field environments.
The Traveling Pack is a way of life for us. We work, travel, and train all from our 5th wheel camper.
We guide upland hunts, train and educate with others, and remain open minded on the open road.
The Traveling Pack consists of myself, Bob, and our combined pack of dogs, along with a few more pups who are on board. Dogs may be with us to board and train, or they may be looking for the right forever home. We want to build a strong networking community of dog owners, breeders, and trainers, dedicated to loving, leading, and sharing their lives with their canine companion.
Six months out of the year we are usually stationary in Alabama where we guide upland hunts. The other half of the year is our nonworking and networking season and our time to travel. So far we've been up the east coast, through the central plains and mid west. Currently, Idaho is the farthest west we have traveled. We continue to add new locations to our list every year.
I am a consumer of dog training content. I do not have any 'content' of my own. I don't post training videos, have a book, or a podcast. What I can give you is my opinion on good consumable dog training content. There is so much to sift through when it comes to dog training; how do you know what is best? Keep an open mind and let's explore together.
I love starting puppies! It's like I get to experience the world over again through another set of eyes. Each one is unique with his or her own strengths and weaknesses. We will usually have a puppy or two on board who are learning how to become calm, confident, stable individuals. We then make sure they are the perfect fit for their new family.
Because my personal pack consists of bird dogs, this is where our training usually takes us. My focus for the dogs is for them to be well rounded and well mannered individuals. This includes simple obedience, respect of thresholds, and being able to enjoy new places and environments. Our way of life is not common, yet the dogs seem to thrive on the structure, pack mentality, and stability. The constant change and travel, prepares dogs and teaches them how to accept and deal with stress. They quickly learn that being able to go with always results in fun things.
There are only a few short years of my life where I was without a canine companion. Since then, I have been able to share my time with hundreds of dogs. Because of this, I've gained experience whelping and raising puppies, caring for sick and injured animals, and been there for them when it is time to go. From vet clinics and boarding facilities to hunting and training kennels, my experience has compounded over the years. I have now found myself living in a 5th wheel camper, full time, with nearly a dozen dogs. It may seem cramped from your perspective, but our "den" style living brings comfort to our dogs. Quality Ruff Land Performance Kennels provide a safe space for individual dogs. This keeps them and others out of trouble and provides the dogs with a personal space, almost like a child's room. The outdoors is our yard! We travel quite a bit during the warmer months, exploring new environments, meeting new people and dogs, and connecting to the world around us.
New to us in March of 2023, the Sprinter van helps us safely and comfortably transport all the dogs on board to our next destination.
Bob is a huge part and support of The Traveling Pack and we could not do it without him! He is the driver of the rig, the tech guru, the sharp shooter, and helps me train when I need an extra hand. My partner in crime works remote, so anywhere with cell service and the camper fits is a reachable destination. He owns Double R Pointers and his four English pointers are a permanent part of the pack. Bob guides with his dogs as passion and hobby.
We are always prepared for any dog's needs and ensure that your pup will receive the best care and love. Their safety and happiness is our priority and we strive to provide a service we would want our own dogs to receive. When your dog is aboard with us they become part of our pack, The Traveling Pack.
When you live a busy life, it is hard to consistently provide the attention and care that your dog can demand. With us, the pack is always the top priority. With years of experience caring for other kennels and individual dogs along with my own, you can rely on the attentiveness that your pup will receive when traveling with our pack.
There is so much to learn and experience in our world. From 8 week old puppies to older dogs that just need more exposure, a spot in the traveling pack can benefit any dog. Your dog can travel with us and gain the confidence he/she needs for everyday life.
Please contact us if you cannot find an answer to your question.
Some of our personal dogs have earned the right to ride in the cab of the truck. Those select few ride in the back seat where an Orvis dog hammock is used to keep them comfortable. All of the other dogs ride in secured Ruffland crates in our decked out Sprinter Van. This allows each dog to have their own space and ride in safety in a climate controlled area.
Life presents training opportunities constantly. Its our job to take advantage of them. There is no set training regime with our pack, instead we like to mix things up. This keeps the dogs interested and on their toes. There are certain activities and drills we do frequently like pack walks (free runs), bumper drills, and lead work. Field trips are engaging outings with the dogs. They can range from but are not limited to a trip to the local Tractor Supply, a hike, or swim at a nearby lake.
Stake outs are a way to safely contain a single dog in specified location. Chain/cable gangs are the same but system for multiple dogs. We utilize stake outs and chain/cable gangs in our daily activities. There are many reasons why these tools are used so frequently. The first reason is safety. With multiple dogs on board, no fencing, and no physical boundary for the dogs to understand, the stake outs are a way for the dogs to have limited freedom in a specific location. They are able to do normal and complete body movements without interfering with other dogs or getting into trouble. Another reason for the use of stake outs is the dogs get more time outside. They are also used like desks in a classroom setting during training sessions. There are other benefits to this tool! You are only limited to your imagination.
We love our dogs! If you have any questions about how we operate, would like more details on our training and travel, or if you have a special request, send us a message, and we'll get back to you as soon as possible.
